When I first started training hockey athletes I immediately realized the need to collect more data information to better understand their performance capabilities. This drove me to start creating my own specialized software program that would allow me to build, implement and track an athletes training plan. This ongoing process has been 7 years in the making as I constantly re-tweak and build the software to improve the accuracy and capabilities of what I want to learn about each athlete.
The tracking software allows me to build year long periodized schedules that are very specific to the exact training needs of the athlete and the corresponding exercise prescriptions required to meet these demands. Scheduling out the steps that are needed to build an athlete must be as close to perfection as possible, therefore I can eliminate inefficient or unnecessary training sessions.
Hockey specific testing with each athlete will give me the initial data that drives the individual training prescriptions each athlete will receive in their daily training plans. The accuracy of the training prescription based on the on ice and off ice testing is very accurate and critical to the integrity of the entire software. Continuing to gather more data from the athletes daily training results will increase the accuracy of subsequent training prescriptions.
Tracking each test and training session is the bread and butter of this software. It gives me unparalleled insight into the progress an athlete is making and allows me to quickly adapt their plans when necessary. Not only does this prevent stagnant and wasted training sessions, it also gives me insight into positive and negative trends that are specific to the athlete over time. With the ability to understand each athlete’s progress, I can improve their chances to meet all of their strength and conditioning goals.
